Alice "Bubbles" Vera (Saunders) Poynter

Alice “Bubbles” Vera Saunders Poynter, 91, went to be with her Lord on September 3, 2025, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville, IL.

Alice was born on August 15, 1934, to P.W. and Lucille (Conger) Saunders in Oakwood, IL, where she attended Oakwood, IL schools and was a 1952 graduate of Oakwood High School.

Bubbles married her high school sweetheart, Elmo “Gene” Poynter, on August 3, 1952, in Fithian, IL. They lived in the Danville area their entire marriage and were blessed to have recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Bubbles was a homemaker who took great pride in a clean and organized home with her collection of over 200 baskets. She loved family gatherings and was a great cook. We will all miss her chicken and noodles, special Jello salads and holiday treats. She and Gene traveled across the USA with friends and family where they especially enjoyed their time in Hawaii.

She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church and assisted with hosting dinners at the church. She loved her Lord and wanted everyone to know Jesus as their Savior. Her favorite Bible verse was I Samuel 12:24 “But be sure to fear the LORD and faithfully serve HIM. Think of all the wonderful things HE has done for you.” NLT

She is survived by her loving husband, Gene; sons, Gary (Jodi) of Zeeland, MI and Mark (Beth) of Eugene, IN; eight grandchildren, Doug (Katie) Poynter, Justin (Erin) Pennock, Nathan Pennock, Kari Reen (Tony Brown), Amy (Derek) Anderson, Kevin (Hannah) Hadley, Taylor (Katie) Skellie, and Sydney (Scott) Thomason; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vicki (Larry) Prosser, Penny (the late Don) Morman; sister-in-laws, Sugie (the late Bill) Saunders, Delores (the late Gail) Green, and Patty (Dick) Goodwin, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Bubbles was preceded in death by her parents, P.W. and Lucille Saunders; daughters, Cathy Lynn Pennock and Julie Ann Hadley; son-in-law, Michael Hadley; siblings, Marge Mariage and Bill Saunders; great-grandson, Micah Owen; and many dear friends.

A private family viewing is scheduled at Rortvedt Funeral Services and Crematory on Monday, September 8, 2025. A graveside service will be held at Danville National Cemetery, 1900 E. Main St., Danville, IL on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Joe Humerichous presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Calvary Baptist Church, 1632 Georgetown Rd, Tilton, IL 61833.
