Charlene Sue Nelson

Charlene Sue Nelson, 76, of Oakwood, IL, passed away on February 5, 2023, at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana. Born January 22, 1947, to Charles and Doris Nelson, Charlene graduated Oakwood Township High School and immediately began work at the Danville Polyclinic. She continued her career at what is now the OSF Cancer Care Center in the early 1980s, retiring as office manager.

Charlene had many quiet talents and enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including cross stitch and crochet, photography, and gardening. She also loved reading historical fiction, and visited many of the locations in which her favorite books were set. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, especially on vacations with her dear friend Ruth White.

Charlene is survived by her niece, Kerry Bowden (Nicholas Cox) of Oxford, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister, Nancy. She will be missed by many cousins, friends, and colleagues.

Per her wishes, there will be no services. Memorials in her honor may be made to the charitable organization of the donor’s choosing.
