Christopher Gilroy

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved Christopher Gilroy, 58, who left us peacefully on May 23, 2026, at 8:35 am EST at The Waters in Covington, IN.  He was born on November 29, 1967, in Danville, IL, the first-born child and only son of Linda and David Gilroy.  

From growing up both in town and in the country of Georgetown, Chris and his family shared a special bond with the land, animals, river, and wonderful neighbors on Lick Skillet Rd. There were always competitive games happening at the house whether it was Atari, Monopoly, Euchre, Uno, kickball, baseball, crochet, or chess.   His later passions became Dungeons and Dragons, Magic, and computer games that he shared with a special group of his friends.  Chris adored Star Trek (especially Spock), Superman, and superheroes in general as well as movies like Highlander, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings.  He loved silly comedies and generally had a witty sense of humor.  He also collected comic books his entire childhood.

After graduating from Georgetown-Ridgefarm High School, Chris served 4 years in the Navy, mostly on a ship in the waters around Northwestern Europe, where he had fond memories of visiting Scotland and England.  When he returned stateside, he worked for Gemco and Ryder Trucking.

Chris had a heart of gold and helped anyone who was in need.  He was a source of humor, knowledge, and endless trivia for his family and friends.  He will be greatly missed.

Chris leaves behind his son, Ian Gilroy of Westville; Ian's mother, Vickie Tawfall; mother, Linda Gilroy of Ridge Farm; sisters, Tammy (Mark) Belansky and Becky (Joe) Budnovich of Danville; nephew, Trevis (Payton Retter) Liggett of St Joe; and 2 special great nephews, Hunter and Chase Liggett. 

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Pleasant Mound Church of Christ located West of Georgetown at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026, with a luncheon following. Chris will be memorialized in the church cemetery.  Services will be officiated by pastor Dan Ziebart.
