Christopher Dean Taflinger "Taffy", 38, of Westville, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 11, 2020.
Chris is survived by his fiancée, Heather Piehl and their children; Brody, Bella, and Bailey Taflinger, parents; Richard and Thelma Taflinger, brother, Chad Taflinger, sister, Jessica Stitt, and mother and father-in-law; Robin and Jimmy White. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
Chris was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ruben and Aurora Moreno and paternal grandparents Floyd and Dorothy Taflinger.
Chris was an amazing father and family man. His children were his pride and joy. He loved teaching them how to play sports and cheering them on at all of their games.
He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Chicago fan - the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks were his favorite teams. He was excited to watch the Cubs make history when they won the 2016 World Series. He enjoyed taking his family to all of the Chicago sporting events.
Chris was employed at AutoZone Distribution Center for 13 years.
Chris was a veteran of the United States Army. He joined August 9, 2001 and was a multiple launch rocket system crew member. He served time in both ammunition and fire platoons in Charlie Battery of the 1/94 Field Artillery, in Idar-Oberstein Germany under the 1st Armored Division. He was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq to perform combat operations in 2003-2004. During his time in the military, he earned three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and earned some service coins.
Chris was the life of the party and loved making people laugh and smile. He enjoyed dancing and music. He loved to travel with his family, boating and fishing.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
There will be a visitation for Chris held at Life Church (2105 North Bowman, Danville) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service officiated by Pastor John Neal starting at 2:00. Military honors and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chris and Heather’s children towards their college funds.
