Clara Mae “Judy” Akins of Danville passed away at 1:30 am on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024, at the Waters of Covington with her family by her side.
Judy was born Oct 26th, 1945, in Hoopeston, the daughter of Bessie and Bubbie Calvert. She married Terry Bell Sr. in 1961 and later married Burton “Buddy” Akins on May 29th,1965, both preceding her in death.
Judy had 5 children: Terry (Cindy) Bell Jr. of Danville, Michael (Becky) Akins of Henning, Bernita (Glen) Shelato of Danville, and Steven Akins of Danville. All are surviving. Judy had one son, Jimmy Akins, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by 2 of her 8 siblings Ruth (Paul) Mackiewicz of Henning, Addie Calvert-Schroeder of Covington, and a special brother-in-law Bill Stark of Danville. Her siblings Cleo Calvert, Leslie Calvert, Leo Calvert, Jewel Watson, Mary Francis Stark, and Mae Calvert, all preceded her in death.
Judy loved spending time with her family including her grandchildren Victoria, Ryan, Jamie, Sarah, Zachary, Mckenzie, Callie, Dakota, Jacob, Kelsey, Taylor, Tyler, Steven Jr., and Lainey. She was also blessed to be here and see many great-grandchildren.
Although Judy lived most of her life here in Illinois her heart always belonged in the hills of Tennessee. She took advantage of every chance she had to be down home where her hillbilly heart belonged.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 1st at CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville with Visitation at 3pm and services at 4pm. A carry-in potluck dinner will follow. If you wish to send flowers, please request to have them delivered after 1pm on Saturday. She will be laid to rest at Fairfield Cemetery in Westmoreland TN at a later date.
