Cloyd Kyger Obituary

Cloyd Russell Kyger, 93, of Ridge Farm passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Hawthorne Inn in Danville with family by his side. He was born on February 27, 1930, in Dana, IN to Russell and Mable (Craft) Kyger. Cloyd married the love of his life, Virginia McLain, on July 17, 1949, in Montezuma, IN. At the young age of 16, Cloyd dedicated his life to preaching The Lord’s word in several local churches. Cloyd enjoyed working as a farm hand while obtaining a certificate in ministry from the Westfield Seminary. He held several other jobs during his life, such as painting, a laborer at General Motors, and substitute teaching while a pastor at the Veedersburg Church. In his later years, he started a construction business. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a regular at Garfield’s and Applebee’s in Danville. He enjoyed helping his late wife Virginia make icing and taste test her cakes she regularly made for family and friends. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2011, after 62 years of marriage. He is survived by his children; Ruth (Hughie) Johnson, Martha Brewer (Paul Marshall), Susie (Dan) Rush, Paul (Danette) Kyger, and Andy (Lora) Kyger; a sister, Beverly Jones; and brother Frank (Suds) Kyger. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sisters; Francis Fleck and Margery Seibold; 3 brothers-in-law, Sam Fleck, Frank Seibold, and Wynn Jones; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
