COVINGTON — Donald Beirl, 83, of Covington, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Hawthorne Inn of Danville.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held at a future date. Rortvedt Funeral Services will be overseeing the arrangements.
Don was born March 31, 1937, in Ashland, WI, the son of Louis & Agnes (Pendergast) Beirl. He married Valery Noakes on June 4, 1960. She survives him.
He is survived by his five children, Sue Frank, St. Joseph, IL, Terre (Bob) Smith, Monticello, IL, Tim (Lynn) Beirl, Villa Hills, KY, Tom (Angi) Beirl, Warsaw, IN, and Edward Beirl, Danville, IL. He is survived by his 10 grandchildren, Jodi (Herb) Powell, Josh (Erin) Frank, Katie (Steven) Mills, Kyle Smith, Sara Beirl, Jessica Beirl, Lauren Beirl, Ryan Beirl, Toni Beirl, and Aaron Beirl, in addition to 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Robert, Walter, Howard, and Allen Beirl, one sister, Jane Schallmoser, and three grandsons, Korey, Kole, and Cameron Beirl.
Born and raised in Ashland, WI, Don graduated from DePadua High School and attended Northern College. He initially worked as a lab technician at the Danville Polyclinic and later at Lauhoff Grain Co, where he survived the explosion of 1968. He finished his working career with 30 combined years at Continental Can/U.S. Can/Ball Corporation, retiring in 1999.
Don & Valery enjoyed traveling cross country by Amtrak train trips and casino visits. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and an ice cold PBR.
