Donald “Donnie” Cox
Don Cox, a lifelong resident of Danville, IL, passed away on September 14, 2021 with lots of family by his side.
Don was born in Danville on August 9th, 1955 to Donald and Florence Cox. He was an Ironworker for 26 years. After retirement, he became an owner/ operator of his own business for 25 years. On February 14, 1981 he married the love of his life, Mary Etchison.
Don was a devoted father to Ashley and Tyler and a wonderful grandpa. He loved spending time with his family, especially his two special grandkids, Taylor and Kade. He enjoyed watching all their sporting events and spending time with them in the yard. He was an avid Cubs and Packers fan. He enjoyed serving as a host at his church, and greeting everyone with a smile and a handshake. Some of his favorite pastimes were gardening, mowing the yard, and spending a Sunday afternoon cruising the lake on his boat with his family. He was known as “Captain Papa.” He will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew him.
Don is survived by his wife Mary Cox (Etchison); his children, Ashley (Marc) Valangeon; Tyler (Jodie) Cox; his grandchildren, Taylor and Kade Valangeon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Florence Cox, and his sister, Sally (Rick) Vaughn.
