Doris Thomas Obituary

Doris Helen Thomas

Doris, known as Helen to many, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27 with her family by her side at Hawthorne Inn in Danville.

Born March 26, 1930 in West Fork, Indiana to Jesse C. Bird and Goldia M. Smith.  She married the love of her life, Joseph Willard Thomas, on May 24, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan.  He preceded her on February 9, 1989.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Messman, of Lafayette, Indiana.

Daughters:    Elizabeth (Larry) Rainwater of Bismarck, IL; Brenda (Chuck) Luther of Dallas, GA and Cheryl (Doug) Shaw of Stillwater, NY.

She was loved by 8 grandchildren (Corbin (Kim), Brooks, Bret, Jeff (Nicole), Jason, Jennifer (Pablo), Chelsey (Scottie) and Thomas) and 7 great-grandchildren (Austin, Kaitlyn, Peyton, Mauricio, Emmanuel, Christian and Bellamy)

She retired from Oakwood Community School District #76 as a Bus Driver.   A job she absolutely loved.    Her greatest joy after retirement was giving back to others and being there for her children.

She was a member of Faith Church of Christ in Danville.

Many thanks to Hawthorne Inn and OSF Hospice for taking such good care of her.

Service will be Saturday, August 31 at 10am
