Elizabeth Ann Powell passed on from this life to her home in heaven on October 22, 2025. She was born on August 16, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa to Clifford William and Pauline Schedel Powell. The family then moved to Springfield, IL where she grew up and graduated from Springfield High School. She then moved on to study at McKendree College in Lebanon, IL, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She settled in Canton, IL to begin her teaching career, investing in the lives of second and third graders for over 30 years. She was a beloved teacher who touched the lives of many students with her kind and loving nature.
Elizabeth was known for her cheerful disposition and always had a smile on her face. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them and her close friends. She had a special affinity for cats and cherished her feline companions throughout her life.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, where she enjoyed working with the children's Sunday School classes, was a member of the chancel choir for a number of years, and helped with babysitting during services. She also worked with Love INC in Fulton County, and was awarded one of their Service Awards for her volunteer work.
Elizabeth always started her days with a McDonalds diet coke, which she enjoyed doing for many years. She was affectionately known as 'Aunt Dint' by her niece and nephew in their younger years.
Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Kathryn McClure; niece, Kellie Goble (Tad); nephew, Matt (April); great nieces, Kamille, Kamdyn, Lily and Iris; and she was also blessed with a great, great niece and nephew, Everleigh and Cooper.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 120 North Avenue A in Canton, IL. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
Elizabeth Ann will be laid to rest on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery, 1441 Monument Ave., Springfield, IL 62702.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Love INC of Fulton County, or the Fulton County Humane Society.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace.
