Gary E. Gayler

Gary E. Gayler, 79, of Covington, IN, passed away at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2024, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL. Gary was born on December 20, 1944, in Crawfordsville, IN, the son of Marvin "Bud" and Loraine (Haniford) Gayler. He married Judy L. Griffin on June 13, 1964, in Veedersburg, IN.

Surviving family includes his daughter, Susie (Chad) Bolser of Covington, IN; son, Jeff (Hillary) Gayler of Fithian, IL; two sisters, Vicki Hollis of Veedersburg, IN, and Tammy Nickle of Covington, IN; sister-in-law, Ann Abbott of Covington, IN; brother-in-law, Scott (Melissa) Griffin of Veedersburg, IN; five grandchildren, Karson Allen, Maddie Bolser (Jake Pence), MaKenzie Gayler (Dalton Walsh), MaKayla Gayler, and Gage Gayler; and two great-grandchildren, Adley Walsh and Cooper Walsh.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Jason Gary Gayler; sisters, Sandy Holland and Linda Miller; brothers-in-law, Dick Griffin, Doug Abbott, Les Nickle, Randy Hollis, and Terry Holland; and his beloved dog, Maisy.

Gary graduated from Covington High School in 1962. He spent the majority of his professional career managing Kelley Vault Company. Upon retiring, Gary worked at Menards and was a well-known Uber driver at the University of Illinois. He was a member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL.

Gary's greatest enjoyment in life was his family. Better known as "Pop," he enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, and especially attending his grandchildren's activities and sporting events.

Per Gary's wishes, he will be cremated and a graveside service only will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) Monday, July 8, 2024, at Bonebrake Cemetery in Veedersburg, IN. All are welcome.
