Gene Martin Obituary

Gene H Martin, 74, of Tilton, IL passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, August 8, 2021. He was born June 2, 1947, in Muscatine, IA, the son of Melvin (Curly) and Josephine Martin. Gene is survived by his son, Matthew Martin, and daughter in law, Lacie Martin, grandchildren Lettie and Weston Martin. Two brothers, Steve (Janet) Martin and Wade (Karen) Martin of Milton, Fl; one sister Melva (Dan) Thomas of Bowling Green, KY. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; special friends, Kevin (BMS) Sloan, Nicky Flowers, and Eddie Cox.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Curly and Jo, former wife and mother of his son, Sandra Martin.

He graduated from Oakwood High School in 1965. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1965-1972.

Gene was a member of the Further Light Masonic Lodge No. 1130 in Danville, IL and the Ansar Shriner’s of Springfield, IL. Gene became monarch of the Gao Grotto in 1992.

The light of his life was his grandchildren. He took care of them every day. He enjoyed fishing, drinking, and pulling jokes on everyone. He also enjoyed cooking and made the best chicken and noodles. He always had a survival kit handy.

Visitation will be held from 1-3pm Saturday, August 14th at Crossroads Christian Church, 3613 N Vermilion, Danville IL 61832. Funeral to follow. Online condolences: www.rortvedtfuneralservices.com.
