James L. (Jim) Barlet was born October 20, 1946 and moved to his eternal home in heaven on Easter Sunday, April 17th, 2022. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Holley (Joe Sr.) Lerner (Joe Jr. (Katie (Evan & Sophie)), Emily (Josh) Lafferty, Anna, and Lizzy), daughter Jennifer (Jay) Gardner (Evan and Wyatt), and daughter Kimberly (Mike Taylor) Montgomery (Olivia, Amelia, Mikey, and Zelia Taylor).
Jim was a quiet man with an enormous heart. He taught technical classes at DACC for nearly 30 years where he was most famous for his "keep working until it's correct" math tests. When not in the classroom, Jim could be found farming (or more likely repairing equipment so he could try and farm), socializing at the unofficial Bismarck coffee shop or hanging out with friends at the Bismarck Mower Shop.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Community Church, 1629 King Street, Tilton, IL on Saturday, April 30th at 10am. Immediately following the service there will be a time for sharing and socializing with family and friends.
Jim will be missed dearly by all who knew him, but his impact will continue for years to come. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vermillion County (IN) 4-H. Make checks payable to “Vermilion Co 4-H” (with in memory of Jim Barlet in the memo line) and mail to 403 W Park St., Ste1, Cayuga, IN 47928.
