Obituary

                James D. Kuhn, 83, of Champaign died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday (April 15, 2014) at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.

                Jim was born February 15, 1931, at Longview, IL, to Harry Otto and Lillie Alice (Tapscott) Kuhn.  They preceded him in death.  He married Leona Pedigo King on August 22, 1963, in Urbana.  He later adopted her two children, David Lee and Laura Nell, and they later had another child, Kathleen Ellen.  David (wife, Shannon) has two stepchildren, Harley and Kyle.  Laura (husband, Tony Garrett) has a daughter, Elizabeth (Bruce Hughes, fiancé) who has a stepdaughter, Bettie.  Kathleen (Phil Calvert, fiancé) has a daughter, Monica.

                Jim is survived also by a younger brother, John, who lives in Lexington, Kentucky.  He was preceded in death by an older sister, Doris Jean.

                Jim graduated from Sidell High School in 1948 and enlisted in the Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict.  He served until 1952 and was honorably discharged at that time.  He briefly attended the University of Illinois, worked at a gas station/garage in Danville, and worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in Ohio for a time.  He then began work as a refinery operator at Humko in Champaign.  He retired from there after 35 years. 

                Jim especially loved gardening, hunting, and fishing.  He was known for his large, beautiful gladioli.  He was also very good at locating and harvesting Morel mushrooms from his secret locations.  He also enjoyed watching the Illini football and basketball teams play.

                Per Jim’s wishes, he was cremated.  Graveside services will be scheduled at a later date.  There will be no other visitation or services.
