James Robert Lucas, 86, of Danville went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday December 17, 2023 at 12:45 pm. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally Lucas on January 27, 2017.
James was born in Decatur, Il. on April 30, 1937 to Mary Shrout and James F. Lucas. He attended Danville Schools. His first job was at the age of 15 laying railroad ties in Tilton, Il. He worked at GE, attended DACC receiving his Bachelor’s Degree and worked as a Senior Dispatcher for Ryder Trucking and McLane Midwest. He retired from McLane and began working at Danville Walmart where he stayed for 15 years before retiring from there. James was a hard working man with the mindset of doing whatever it took to provide for his family. Even when there were lean times it wasn’t obvious to his daughters. He made sure of that.
James loved anything that involved being outdoors. He took pride in his beautiful lawn, always planting beautiful flowers and a vegetable garden. He was an avid sports fan, passionate about politics, and loved to read his newspaper. He was a long-time member of Crossroads Christian Church in Danville.
He was a humble, gentle man with a heart to give and help others in need. He loved talking with people and never met a stranger.
James leaves behind his daughters, Debbie Miller and Brenda Britton. His grandchildren, Shannon, Natasha, Andrew, and Aaron. Great grandchildren, Raven, Keith, Alyvia, Lincoln, Ariel, Kierra, Malakai, Aryianna, Zahmiere and one Great-great grandson, X’ayvion. He also leaves behind one brother Allen (Donna) Hedges. There will be no Funeral Service per James’s wishes. Online condolences: www.rortvedtfuneralservices.com.
