James "Doc" Waite Lockwood, Sr.

James "Doc" Waite Lockwood, Sr., 95, of Danville, Illinois, died September 1, 2025, at Hawthorn Inn in Danville, IL. He was born in Danville, Illinois on July 21, 1930, to Clementine Lazetta Waite and Francis Matthew Lockwood, Sr. 

James attended Danville schools and worked as an iron worker from 1952-1995. He was a member of the Decatur Gun Club, and had the most years of service and was the oldest member of Iron Workers Local Union #380 (73 years). Some of his major accomplishments were helping build various infrastructure projects in Illinois, including Interstate I-74, the State Farm Center (Assembly Hall) in Urbana-Champaign, and the Clinton Power Station in Clinton, IL. He also built several homes in the Clinton, IL area. He had a passion for cars, owning several muscle cars, building his own race car (Baby Blue #3) and racing it, watching old westerns and NASCAR racing on television, and also hunting. He received numerous awards for his skill at skeet shooting, including winning 2nd in state for his age group. 

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, James Waite Lockwood, Jr.; and his brothers, John Edward Lockwood and Francis Matthew Lockwood, Jr.

James is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Larry) Rodgers, her son, David Rodgers and his children, Michael, Kyndall, Kyndra, and Adelynne Rodgers; daughter, Jacqueline Lynn (Richard) Prevette and her daughters, Heather Lockwood Senteney and her children, Chad, Norah, and Emma Rothwell, and Hope and Dean Senteney; daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Stennett and her children, McKenzie, Christopher, and Caley Stennett, and Allyson and Sadie Martinaitis; daughter, Chelsea Kyger and her children, Corabelle (Cooper) Terry and their child, (expected September 2025), and Jay and Gunnar Kizer. 

Cremation was preformed per his wishes.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
