Janet S. Redmon, 93, passed at 10:48 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Born September 27, 1921 in Nickerson, Nebraska to Sheldon Ashton Spangler and Josephine Polansky Spangler.
In 1947 she was united in marriage with Robert L. Redmon by Dr. George Arthur Franz, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN. Her husband preceded her in death July 19, 1964.
Under Civil Service she first worked in the Flight Surgeon’s office and later as secretary in the Medical Services department of the Lincoln Army Air Force Base Hospital in Lincoln, NE.
She began her nursing education in Omaha and graduated from Creighton Memorial St. Joseph’s Hospital of Nursing as a registered nurse.
After moving to Danville she did private duty and floor duty at Lakeview and St. Elizabeth Hospitals. She worked primarily as an industrial nurse for several companies, including Olin-Mathieson in Covington, IN, and General Electric in Danville.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodi Redmon of Oakland, CA; sister-in-law, Lorraine Spangler of Omaha, NE; three nieces and nephews, all of Omaha, NE; 26 grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; and her longtime friends, Judy and Jay Abbott of Danville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Redmon, brothers Gordon and Keith Spangler, and sister Eileen Cahoon.
A member of First Presbyterian Church of Danville and the General Electric Retirees Association, Janet was a great lover of the outdoors and spent much of her time gardening and bird watching. She also enjoyed reading and sewing.
A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Franklin Street, Danville on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception. Reverend Jimmy Hopper will officiate. Private burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorials in Janet’s name may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Danville or to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org.
