Jimmy Lee Collins

Jimmy Lee Collins was called to eternal rest Thursday, June 13, 2023 at the age of 80. He was born May 3, 1944 in St. Joseph, Il. to Leland and Virginia Collins. He married second wife and forever love Caren Wombles on August 25, 1998; she preceded him in death. Jimmy is survived by a sister, Patricia Ridinger and a brother, Leland Collins Jr. Along with his siblings, Jimmy is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Dwain) Dixson of Danville. Jimmy also loved as his own, Brian Wombles of Danville, Brad (Jean) Wombles of Oakwood, Micheal (Stacey) Wombles of Fithian and Rebecca (Michael) Akins of Henning. Jimmy had seven grandchildren, Hayley and Elizabeth Wombles and Zachary, Mckenzie, Dakota, Callie (Skeeter), and Jacob Akins. He had 2 great grandchildren Emmett & Taylor. Jimmy also leaves behind a very special friend, Larry Joyner of Ohio.

Jimmy was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He served from July 1965 to July 1967. Jimmy was employed and retired from Conway/CCX. He had received many awards while employed there. He enjoyed being behind the wheel of the semi and being on the open road. Jimmy’s passion for being on the open road spilled over into his second love, his beautiful Goldwing motorcycle. He and his buddy, Larry would plan vacations on their motorcycles and rode to many treasured places together. Jimmy was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many long hours in the woods or on his boat. He swore all his fish stories were true catches and measurements. I think we believed him… Jimmy spent bad weather days and evenings watching John Wayne westerns.

Jimmy loved to tease his wife, Caren “Sue”. Their banter back and forth left us all in tears of laughter. He got a good rise out of her when playing Aggravation and beating her. This most often ended in her tossing the dice across the room or at him. Jimmy, Jimbo, Grandpa, Baldy, Jim. He went by many names. He was the guy we all went to for advice of all kinds. Or even just to vent to. He listened to and loved each one of us. He was hardly ever wrong (We never said that to Mom). He was loyal, trustworthy, hardworking and immensely proud of his family. Jimmy will be missed by all that loved him. If you knew Jimmy, you knew you had a friend for life. He will truly be missed by us all, and loved for eternity.

As per his wishes, there will be no services. His wish was to be cremated with no fuss over his passing. For those wishing to express sympathy, we request a donation be made to the Dementia Society of America, in his memory.
