On Tuesday February 8, 2022, John Leonard Fitzsimmons of Tilton, Illinois; husband, father, brother, uncle, friend to all, and the greatest grandfather;
went to heaven at the age of 85.
John was born on April 1, 1936, in Danville, Illinois to Madge Pichon and Harold Fitzsimmons.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Jerald Leslie Erp, his parents, Chloe (his favorite dog), and his brother-in-law
Stanley Wilson.
"Pap" could never be summed up in a few paragraphs or simple words. He was so much more than that. The mark that he left on the world lives on in those he loved and the lives he touched. He was deeply loved in life and will be deeply missed. John " Pap" was blessed with a family that he loved so much. He lived a life of service, dedicating his time, to family, friends, people in need, and church.
John worked for General Motors - Danville Central Foundry until his retirement. After his retirement, he stayed active in the community and ran the kitchen for his church's school. He never met a stranger or a person that he did not like and would always help
anyone in need. "Pap" enjoyed gathering for coffee with his brothers and lifelong friends. His hobbies included working in his yard, building things, riding his motorcycle, grilling, traveling, and most importantly spending time with his family. The greatest times we had with "Pap" were learning not only how to do things but how to interact with others.
John is survived by his wife Joan "Mam" Fitzsimmons from Greenville, Ohio; daughters Sharrie Erp and Kerri Fitzsimmons; grandchildren, Jeremy Erp and wife Nicole, Josh Erp and Jason Erp; great grandchildren Wyatt and Andrea of Texas; siblings Charlie Fitzsimmons and wife Jo Anne, Don Fitzsimmons and wife Sally, and sister Dlorah Wilson, and countless adoring cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life for family and friends to come together to share their cherished memories will be held at a future date when weather and COVID restrictions improve. It was John's wish to be cremated.
