John Allen Reed

April 26, 1950 – August 5, 2024

John Reed was the third child of Ivan G. and Emy Lou Reed from Georgetown, Illinois. After graduating High School, John married Karen Knight and had two sons, Jason and Christopher. They were raised in Georgetown. In 1986, John married Mary Jo Wilczynski, and together, they made a family of his two boys and her three children, Michael, Benjamin, and Robin Gilbert.

 After graduating from the U of I with an engineering degree, John worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department. He retired from the state in 2018. Later, he worked for Cross Construction and Toyota of Danville.

John was an avid builder and volunteered with the Vermilion Handicapped Association, building wheelchair ramps throughout Vermilion County. He liked to shoot pool and competed in a league. He had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and fine cars.

John leaves behind his wife, Mary Jo, his children Jason (Amy) Reed, Chris (Joanie) Reed, Benjamin Gilbert, and Robin (Gilbert) Calvin. Two Brothers, Charles and Michael Reed. John was a loving grandpa with multiple grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister Betty Lomax, his first wife Karen, and his stepson Michael Gilbert.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Georgetown American Legion on August 17th at noon CDT. Food will be provided.
