Julia Ann Vehlewald, 97, of Danville, died Friday morning, October 27, in her sleep at Goldwater Care Nursing Home. Julia will join her husband, Howard at the VA National Cemetery
Julia was the daughter of Frederick and Mamie (Albers) Bath. Her first marriage was to Daniel Pancoast (Deceased). Julia later married Howard Vehlewald in 1956. Julia was preceded in death by both husbands, sisters Thelma and Mary and brothers Earl and Theo Bath.
Julia walked ¾ mile to Rose Hill grade school and attended Old Union church northwest of her home which was a walk of almost 2 miles. She attended Danville High School along with Dick VanDyke. After her junior year she went to work in the office of Musebeck Shoe Company. She then held secretarial positions at R & S Printing, Continental Filling and retired from management of a Motel 6 in Madison, Wisconsin in 1988. The last job for her and Howard was with Pancoast Construction along with sons Kevin and Fred.
Julia enjoyed playing card games, especially euchre and poker and was instrumental in starting euchre tournaments at the Moose Lodge where she was a member of The Women of the Moose.
The Pancoast and Vehlewald families wish to thank the staff at Goldwater Care, the OSF Hospice Service, Kelly Printing and the assistance of Rortvedt Funeral Services and Crematory.
And a special thank you to all her card playing friends who sometimes gave her rides and helped her when it became more difficult for her to attend the games.
She and Fred cried together when she became too ill to attend those games and could no longer play with her many euchre buddies. Julia also had a special place in her heart for niece Jeannie Brandenberger along with Hope and Andy Bryant. Julia is survived by sons, Fred (Ruth) Pancoast and Kevin (Pamela) Vehlewald. Pancoast children are Brent Honn and Shelby (John) Jennings and their son Seth, daughter Lauren, wife Amanda and 2 granddaughters, Peyton and Reese. Son Jerrod has 2 sons, Ronan and Sterling. Brent's Daughter is Ashley (Baron) Peasley and children, Madison, Lily, Logan, Baron Jr, Devlin, and Everly. Vehlewald Children include Christa Murphy, Joshua (Amanda) McCoy, children Dakotah McCoy, AlexisRay, Micheal, Matthew & Alex Kilgore, Adam (Jamie) McCoy, Addison & Rinley McCoy.
