Katherine Brown Obituary

Katherine “Kathy” L. Brown, 58, of Danville, passed away at 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 in the comfort of her home. Kathy was born in Danville, Illinois on December 21, 1961 to Eda and Roy Becker. Kathy married the love of her life, Steve Brown, who survives, on February 28, 1986 and they spent a great 34 years together. They had a daughter, April, on March 28, 1992 she survives. Also surviving is April’s husband Darren Shaw whom she married on June 24, 2017. April and Darren had a baby boy on September 28, 2019, giving Steve and Kathy a beautiful and energetic grandson, Easton Carter. More survivors include Kathy’s sister; Elizabeth Martin, a stepdaughter; Dawn Christine Brown, brothers-in-law; Greg (Sue) Brown and Randy Brown, nieces; Shelly Potter and Whisper Brown, great nephews; Zachary and Tyler, 3 great great nephews and niece.

Kathy attended Trinity Lutheran school, she graduated from Danville High School in 1979 and continued to Illinois State University to get her degree in Special Education. She taught and McKinley and District 118 before going to Westville High School as a special needs teacher with the TMH children. Kathy loved working with children and continued to do so until her retirement in 2019.

Kathy’s hobbies included working jig-saw puzzles, cooking, baking, fishing and loved the outdoors. She really took pride in gardening which was apparent to anyone who visited her and Steve. Kathy made it a tradition to make candy, cookies, and treats that she distributed to school friends, neighbors, family and close acquaintances at Christmas time. She would spend a couple weeks after thanksgiving working tirelessly to make sure she brought joy to those she cared about by making all her delicious, sweet indulgences.

There will be a visitation held for Kathy at 10 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Services for Kathy will be private. Burial will be at Gundy Cemetery with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating a graveside service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we ask that everyone please wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
