Kenneth Cox Obituary

Kenneth R. Cox, age 82 of Danville went to heaven to be with the Lord and reunite with his wife on September 23, 2022.   He passed at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville with his family at his side.

 Ken was born January 2, 1940 in Danville Illinois, the son of Ralph W, and Thedelma N, Cox. He attended Lincoln grade school and graduated from Danville High School in 1958.

He was first married to Judith A. Hill in Danville and had a son, Kenneth R. Cox and a daughter Kelly Rae Cox Hendren. On December 31, 1974 he married Marilyn A. Ferris Cox and had a daughter Kimberly Rebecca Cox Spangler. Ken and Marilyn were married 43 years until her passing on July 6, 2017.

Ken is survived by his daughter Kimberly Rebecca (Toby) Spangler of Danville Illinois, son Kenneth R.(Maria) Cox of Jacksonville Fl. , daughter Kelly Rae(Scott) Hendren of St. Joseph Il., his sisters Pam (Thomas) Nevins of Edinburg, Il.,  Penny (Bryan) Dunlevy of Springfield Il and brothers Jim (Linda) Cox of Springfield Il. and Steve (Ruth) Cox of Rochester IL. Grandchildren, Rylan and Nolan Spangler, Joe (Rebekah) Cox, Melissa Rodriguez, Mary Cox and Melony Hoogstraat and several great grandchildren.

Ken was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn, his sister Sylvia Chezem, brother-in-law Paul E. Chezem Jr. and grandson Mathew Wheeler.

 Since the age of 10 Ken wanted to be in law enforcement like his uncle Russell Gray who was a Special Agent with Alcohol Tobacco Firearms of the federal government. Ken worked in police service for 30 years, was an officer with Danville PD, Deputy Sheriff with Vermilion County Sheriff Dept. and Security Specialist with Arizona State University Police Dept. in Tempe Arizona.

In 2009 Ken established the Meadowlawn Area Neighborhood Association (MANA) and held the first meeting on August 17, 2009 in his garage. In 2019 Ken was awarded the 2019 Scott Eisenhauer Individual Achievement award presented by the City of Danville and the Danville Neighborhood Leadership Council.

Ken will be greatly missed by family and friends and especially by two of his long-time neighbors, Sally Kittle and Cathy Miller, who always looked out for him and tried to keep him out of trouble.

Per Kens wishes he will be cremated and a small memorial service will be held. Family will receive guests on Saturday October 1, 2022 from 12-1pm followed by a short memorial service at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church located at 1211 N. Vermilion St. Danville Il. Pastor Phil Neumann will be officiating. All are welcome to attend.
