Kevin Matthew Smith, (62) of Georgetown, IL passed on from this life at 1:22 pm on June 18, 2021. Kevin was born on August 11, 1958 to proud parents Melba Joyce Nearpass Smith and John W. Smith. He grew up in Perrysville, Indiana, where he formed lifelong friendships. He attended North Vermillion High School, class of 1976, in Cayuga, IN, where he played football. Kevin went on to obtain his bachelors degree in Geography from Ball State University in 1980. He then began his career at KIK Custom Products, where he worked for 32 years in the chemical lab.
Kevin was an avid sports fan and loved the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, Indiana Pacers and Indiana Hoosiers. He was elated when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. Kevin’s other passions were: music, literature, movies, comedy, philosophy and religion. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge on each of these topics and was always ready with an apt quote from a song, movie or book. He was loved for his humor and quick wit. Upon hearing news of his passing, one of his closest friends remarked, “ Now he has gone home and there is gonna be a jam to end them all in Heaven”.
Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, brother Johnny, and several other family members and dear friends. Kevin is survived by his brother Steve (Cindy) Smith, daughter Heather (Chad) Finley and their two children, Nora and Audrick, niece, Stephanie (Brett) Bean and their two children, Alec (Rachel) and Andrew Bean; nephew Wade Smith, step daughter Lisa Adams; lifelong friend, Joe Kizer and a host of other cherished family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on July 18, 2021 at The Little Nugget in Danville, IL from 1-3 pm. Please wear a mask to attend, unless fully vaccinated.
