Larry Stephen Bonebrake was born on May 9, 1950. He passed on into his next mystery August 13, 2025. In between those years he moved around the country with his military family. He shared a strong bond with his twin brother Jerry. Larry served in the United States Air Force 1974-1977 and graduated from Purdue University in 1976. He worked for the University of Illinois until he retired some 20 years ago. Larry was always fascinated by nature and never stopped being amazed at the world around him. Both thrifty and generous, Larry was always scouring the newspaper for estate sales and Ruler Foods ads, pointing out those deals. He shared produce and flower seeds from his garden and helped friends with some financial needs. Larry completed extensive upgrading projects on his home, building the additions himself along with Butch, his right-hand man in home remodeling. Larry was preceded in death by his twin, his parents and his older brother, Joseph, a close Air Force buddy, Peter Deischl and his cat, Poot. Larry is survived by his sister, Pat, his friend, Butch, his cribbage buddies, Renée, John, and Laura, his kind and attentive neighbors, his friends at Midland bank and a host of local bartenders whom he often tipped with fists full of coins. He planted a container of moonflowers at Hubers bar and left a cribbage board there which he and the cribbage buddies used almost every day at noon. Interment with Military Honors by American Legion Post 210 will be at Danville National Cemetery on Friday, August 22 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flower or gifts, please plant some flowers, tip your bartenders, go to an estate sale and learn to play cribbage. Donations in Larry’s name may be sent to the Palliative Care Unit, VA Illiana Healthcare System, 1900 E. Main St. Danville, Illinois 61832, where he received excellent end-of-life care.
