Obituary

On June 8, 2023, while in the presence of family, Laurie went home to be with her Savior.

Laurel "Laurie" May Andersen was born on July 9, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Harry Patrick and Mary Ann Rath. Laurie was the youngest of three children and the only girl. She self-described herself as a "tom-girl" and played ball in the neighborhood with her older brothers' friends.

Although Laurie never had a sister, she had several close "sister like" relationships in life including her cousin Rose, sister-in-laws Clareen and Dorothy and most especially her best friend, of 70 years, Beverly. She taught her children the value of a having a true friend in life and it is something that they will cherish.

Laurie put herself through school as a young single mom and earned her bachelor's degree in education. After receiving her bachelor's degree, she received a job offer in Racine, Wisconsin. It was there that she met her beloved husband Pete and they were together for 45 years.

Laurie enjoyed reading, writing, singing, and most anything to do with physical fitness. She was an active member of the YWCA for years and volunteered her time for various organizations over the years. She was generous with her time and talents and wouldn't hesitate to help a person in need.

Laurie is survived by her children: Mark (Tawanna Havrilak), Marty Havrilak, Kristen (Joel) Browns, of Hillsboro, IN, Kari (Seth Behrends) Andersen; step-children: Peggy (Randall) Peterson, Mark (Iris) Andersen, and Suzette Dederich, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Peter and brothers Patrick and James.

A celebration of life service is planned for Wednesday June 14, 2023 at Autumn Ridge Church in the Timothy Chapel at 11 am with a luncheon to follow. Visitation with the family will be at 10 am.

Laurie's children would like to thank The Waters on Mayowood, Seasons Hospice, Home Instead, Cottagewood, Moments Hospice and Autumn Ridge Church for the wonderful care and attention that Laurie was provided with over the last several years of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you donate to The Salvation Army in her memory or donate to the research for a cure for Alzheimer's.
