Margaret Cornwell Smith, 94, of Georgetown passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at home. Per her wishes, she will be cremated with a graveside committal at Forest Park Cemetery, Georgetown, IL at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2021 with Pastor Jim Blue officiating.
Margaret was born May 4, 1926, in Westville, IL to parents Andrew and Elizabeth Spisok Wargo. She married Wayne Cornwell on October 9, 1942 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death in 1984. She later married Norman F. Smith on October 20, 1990 in Georgetown, IL, who preceded her in death on October 9, 1997.
Margaret is survived by 4 children; Wayne (Linda) Cornwell of Whitestown, IN, Rita (Fred) Pearman, Dwayne Cornwell and Doyne (Tina) Cornwell all of Georgetown, IL, 8 grandchildren; Michael (Maura) Cornwell, Susan (Dwight) Klippel, John David (Jill Reagan) Cornwell, Barry (Angela) Pearman, Brent (Jennifer) Pearman, Jenny Cornwell, Jered (Bobbie Jo Walls) Cornwell, Jeremy (Iris) Cornwell; 18 great grandchildren, and 10 great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Ann Knaak, of Hoffman Estates, IL, several nieces and nephews, and Cheri Colbert of Kokomo, IN, whom Margaret fostered from 1985 until 1990. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Mary Hensley and 2 brothers, John Wargo (infancy), and Andrew Wargo, Jr. Also preceding her in death was a very dear friend, Wanda Acord.
She was retired from Georgetown-Ridge Farm School District where she drove the school bus for the special-needs students of the district for many years. Margaret spent her retirement doing word search puzzles, fishing, cooking, working in her yard/garden, and enjoying time with her many grandchildren.
The family has entrusted her arrangements to Rortvedt Funeral Services & Crematory, Tilton, IL.
