Mark Allan Cunningham, 74, of Danville, Illinois passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at his home at 8:32 a.m. on Friday, September 5th, 2025. He was born August 5th, 1951, in Danville, the son of Brad and Anne (Nicely) Cunningham.
Mark attended Danville High School and SIU-Carbondale for college. He entered the workforce as a skilled laborer, was a dedicated member of Labor Union 624, and later became the Superintendent of Danville City Streets and Sewers. Mark enjoyed socializing with friends, making people laugh and was always the life of the party. He was also an avid Fighting Illini Fan and Chicago Bears fan. But above all else he loved spending time with his family, especially sport events, competitions and performances revolving around his grandchildren…which he could always be heard “hootin and hollerin” or cheering. He was the epitome of a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Mark met and married Susan (Merrill) Bennett Cunningham on December 2nd, 2005, in Danville and was a loving partner for the past 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Darrel Cunningham; and one sister, Lorri (Paul) Powell.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Merrill) Bennett Cunningham; 1 daughter, Ashlee (Jon) Stonewall of Danville, Illinois; 1 son, Rhett (Natasha) Cunningham of Rockford, Illinois; 2 stepdaughters, April Bennett (Joe Tennyson) of Bismarck, Illinois and Angie (Chad) Stewart of Wingate, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Addisyn, Anderson, Annistyn (Thomas) and Arexson, Brooklyn, Braylyn (Stonewall), Vaughn Cunningham, Nicklas and Alexander (Peterson), Nathan, Lauren and Seth (Hickman); 1 great-grandson, Theo Peterson; 2 brothers, Kevin (Chiquita) Cunningham of Danville and Craig Cunnigham of Vincennes, IN; and 2 sisters, Leesa (Tom) Hubbard of Danville and Lanette (Chuck) Cannady of Danville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 13th at the 21st Century Christian Worship Center, 412 Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Family and friends are welcome to come and share memories of Mark.
