Martha Ann “Nan” Urbas, 83, of Westville, Illinois passed peacefully September 29, 2023 at her home. Nan was born April 9, 1940 in St. Louis, MO; the daughter of Dr. John and Alberta (Czapski) Urbas, they preceded her in death. Surviving family includes sisters: Joan Goble of Westville, and Tracy Hill of Westville, a brother Dr. John Val Urbas, niece Leslie (John) Balsamello of Westville, and her kitties Reggie and Tony.
Nan graduated Westville High School, attended University of Illinois, and graduated from DACC. Nan initially worked as an airline stewardess in Chicago before moving to Atlanta, Georgia where for many years she ran the parts department at Baker Motor Company, also worked on a private sailboat off the coast of Spain, then became self employed doing projects for clients in Atlanta. She returned to Westville and worked at the YWCA as a preschool teacher, where she retired. She loved seeing her former students as adults, some even playing in the NFL.
Nan never met a stranger, she laughed frequently and enjoyed the simple things in life; anything outdoors, anything involving foreign sports cars, her home and flowers in her yard, sitting on her patio swing with her kitties and friends enjoying a drink or a little pipe. She was truly a hippie at heart ❤️ The family would like to thank Carle Hospice for their care and support.
Per her request she will be cremated with her ashes spread at her favorite childhood location. There will be no services. Memorials may be made in Nan’s memory to Hoopeston Animal Rescue Team, Hoopeston, Illinois.
