Maxine (Smith) Ellis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maxine Ellis, 97, of Oakwood, IL, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Maxine was born June 17, 1928, in Bomer, West Virginia to Clifford and Edna Smith.

Maxine married the love of her life, Robert G. Ellis Sr. on June 12, 1952, and together they had a “happily ever after” marriage for over 55 years until Robert’s passing in 2007.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Palma June Smith Wilder, and Drema Rose Fisher Waldeck; brothers, Patrick Lawrence Smith and an unnamed baby brother who died at birth; and granddaughter, Kimberly Michelle Stewart Hagan of Westville, IL.

Maxine is survived by her two sons, Michael Gene (Sally Conrad) Ellis of Danville, IL and Robert Gene (Debbie Hale) Ellis Jr. of Westville, IL; one daughter and best friend, Terri Jean (Timothy J) Stewart Sr.; five grandchildren, Robert Michael (Christina) Ellis of Westville, IL, T.J. (Heidi) Stewart of Chittenango, NY, Jeffrey Michael (Amy ) Ellis of Westville, IL, Mike (Charlotte) Ellis of Danville, IL, Mickensey (Garrett) White of Oakwood, IL; eleven great grandchildren; and was expecting one great great grandchild on May 30, 2026.

Maxine will be laid to rest on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Oakhill Cemetery, 16824 Shangri La Rd, Oakwood, IL 61858, next to her beloved husband, Robert.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Muncie Baptist Church, 205 Main St. Muncie, IL 61857.
