Michael Edward (Doogie) Doggett

Michael Edward (DOOGIE) Doggett, 67 of Westville received his wings on August 28, 2024. Born on December 18, 1956 to A. Gail (Atwood) and Joseph E. Doggett. Michael attended Westville High School, graduating class of 1975. He owned and operated Doogie’s Place, until he entered the United States Air Force in February 1982. He proudly served until his separation in February 1992. He was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections from 1993 to 2011. Michael is survived by his wife, Debbie of 27 years, his children, Brock Henry Doggett, of Danville, Michelle Lynn Doggett (Dain Wilson), of Westville, his brothers, Steve (Nokia Asmore) Doggett of Monticello, Rocky (Jo) Doggett of Westville, brother-in-law Bill (the late Cheryl) Pickett, his 7 grandchildren, many cousins, Aunt Judy (the late Rollie) Atwood, Aunt Annie (the late Lance Sr.) Atwood, and Uncle Harry (Sally) Doggett, and our ”adopted” daughter, Hannah (Sue) Romoser of Chrisman, who called him “Big Daddy”!

Michael’s commitment to country and service continued through serving on the honor guard at both Catlin American Legion and Westville American Legion. 

Michael had many hobbies during his lifetime. He was an avid hunter, model train enthusiast, NHRA and NASCAR fan. If it had a motor, he would drive it. He loved attending car shows in his 1964 Dodge Dart.  He also owned several Harley's and began his own motorcycle group, of which he was President, THE BLACK WIDOWS!! The Wizard of Oz held a special place in his heart. He was also known for his fabulous homemade wine, deer jerky and pulled pork. All as unique as he was! He will be greatly missed by several members of the fine community of Westville Illinois that he lived in most of his life. He touched many hearts with his generosity, kind words and support in anyway needed. His humor will never be forgotten. He was one of a kind! 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gail and Joe Doggett,  his sister, Cheryl Pickett, his loyal dog, Harley,  his stepsons,  Will and Seth Meers, many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. 

Per Michael’s request there will be no funeral, however, there will be a graveside service with military rites on September 7, 2024 at 10 A.M. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Catlin, Illinois.
