Michael G Swank, 75, passed away due to COVID complications on Monday, January 18, 2021 in Urbana, Illinois. He was born in La Jolla, California and was raised and lived his life in Danville, Illinois. He was born January 11, 1946 to Arlene Hale Swank. He was an avid Golfer and a member of Harrison Park and Wolf Creek golf club. Mike had a lot of friends who enjoyed playing in the ‘Geezer’ golf at Wolf Creek. He absolutely loved to fish and spend time on the lake. He worked in many areas of sales throughout his career. Survivors include his daughter, Michele “Candy” Simerson of Somerset Kentucky. He had 4 grandchildren; Michael, Jordan, Peyton and Jesse.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Arlene Hale Swank and Harrold Swank. He was also preceded in death by his sons Michael Charles and Mark Christopher Swank.
He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam from 1963-1965 Company H 1st Battalion 2nd Infantry
A time of gathering will be held at Danville National Cemetery which is administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Due to COVID restrictions the Chapel is closed and 10 loved ones are allowed at the cemetery.
‘Big Mike’ was so loved by so many and will be dearly missed. He would be so proud of the respect you have shown and be honored by your presence.
