Mitchell Leon “Rebel Red” Burks, Jr., age 44, passed away on June 8, 2025, in Tilton, Illinois as the result of a hit and run driver. Born on May 9, 1981, in Kankakee, Illinois, Mitchell was a man of many talents and passions-a gifted chef, a captivating singer, and a natural entertainer whose presence lit up every room he entered.

A beloved figure in every city he called home, Mitchell shared his vibrant spirit across Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Georgia, and most memorably, Florida. It was in Sarasota, Florida, where he truly honed his culinary skills and made a name for himself as a gifted karaoke performer. His voice and energy were unforgettable, making him a favorite wherever he sang and cooked.

Mitchell was more than his talents; he deeply loved and cherished his son and thought of him as the best part of his life and his greatest contribution to the world, he was loved by many and was a true friend to everyone he met. His warmth, generosity, and charm left lasting impressions on countless lives.

He leaves behind his beloved son, Everett Flynn Burks 3 ½, and Everett's mother, Jeanessa Satrazemis Fox of Sarasota, Florida; his mother, Deborah Burks of Tilton, Illinois; his father and bonus mom, Mitch and Dawn Burks of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and his brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Melanie Burks of Tilton, Illinois and his brother Tim Burks, of Sarasota, Florida.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, at United Church of Tilton, 520 West 5th Street, Tilton, IL.

Mitchell’s legacy lives on in the joy he brought to others and the love he shared with friends and family alike. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
