Nancy Jane (Copsy) Downing

Nancy Jane Downing, 84, of Danville died Wednesday afternoon in her home surrounded by her loving family. Nancy was born December 17, 1940 in Highland, Indiana to Earl Copsy and Ellen (Massey) Copsy.

Nancy loved to sit in her recliner and watch the Hallmark channel while finishing one of her many plastic canvas projects. When she wasn't stitching, she was enjoying a refreshing ice cream freezie, rice pudding, Starburst jelly beans, or potatoes. Nancy was never more than an arm's reach away from her beloved Cherry Pepsi ("That tastes so gooood~") and she spent many hours talking about her cherished cat, Cricket.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dewie Downing; brother, Burlin Copsy; and sister, Melody Copsy.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Cindy (James) Steele and Tammy Star; son, David Downing; grandchildren, Elizabeth Steele, James Steele Jr., Darcy (Christopher) Steele-Kelly, Zachary Star, Gabriel Star, Jacob Star, and Johnathan Star; special family members, Katie (Nick) Tuggle, Matthew Pinegar, Audrey Murdock, Love Wright, and River Cole; and great grandpets, MooMoo Steele, Kaiba Kelly, Mia Steele, Iris Star-Shumard, Cracker Shumard-Star, Harvest Star-Shumard, Sock Star-Shumard, Tucker Shumard-Star, and Tarot.

Special thanks to the wonderful nurses, CNAs, and hospital staff that cared for Nancy in her final days.

Nancy will be laid to rest next to Dewie at Danville National Cemetery on Friday, October 31st, 2025, with graveside services beginning at 10:00 a.m.
