Paul James “Chub” Galaskis died at 8:28 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Normal, Illinois. Paul was born to Paul and Jacqueline Galaskis on September 8, 1954 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville.
Paul was born without arms and legs and was an inspiration to everyone he met. His life expectancy wasn’t to be long, but God had other plans. He was 69 years old.
He attended Chicago Research Hospital School his early years and was taught by Elizabeth Norvalitis, his homebound teacher. Paul, while staying with the Holman family, attended Marycrest Business College, graduating in 1978. He accepted a position with the Danville police department and was hired by Chief Robert Dietzen who gave him the opportunity to work in spite of his disabilities. Paul was an avid, die-hard Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Young, nephew Nicholas (Lisa) Young, niece Lacy (Jim) Hicks, great nieces Lynley, Raygan Hicks, great nephew Maddox Kirts, cousin, Tim McBride, Donnie (Kay) Beauvois, Robert (Terri) Wiese and Sharon Wiese and an aunt, Ruth Woodard.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul & Jacqueline Galaskis, and his brother Michael. He was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ and the Vermilion Heights Christian Church.
Funeral services for Paul will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024 at First Church of the Nazarene 2212 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
