Roland (Rollie) Atwood Jr

Roland (Rollie) Atwood Jr, 87, passed away on May 15, 2024 at home with his family by his side.  Born to Rollie and Mary (Pridemore) Atwood on April 26, 1937 in Grape Creek, IL, he married the love of his life Judy (James) on January 27, 1962. Together, they shared 62 loving years together. 

He is survived by his wife, daughter Kari (Tim) Hooks, grandson Jared Hooks, granddaughter Kelcy (Derek) Skinner, and 3 great-grandchildren Jace Hooks, Madison Skinner and Kennedy Skinner.  Roland loved his family; they were everything to him as he was to them.

Roland never met a stranger.  He was well liked and respected by all.  He will be missed by all who knew him.  He had many stories to tell and would reminisce about the old days.  He enjoyed working in his garage, working on old tractors, car engines, it didn’t matter; if it wasn’t running, he could fix it.

He and his wife enjoyed sitting out on their porch watching the birds and visiting with family and friends.  He always enjoyed fishing, watching Nascar, and watching football.  He retired from Danville Steel in 2014.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law & mother-in-law (Alfred & Lillian James), his son whom they miss dearly (Rollie Atwood III), brothers (Owen & Lance), Sisters (Beverly Hacquet, Gail Doggett, and Linda Crowe), and special niece (Christy Seldomridge).

A special thanks to Dr Labayog and all of his staff at the OSF Bobette Steely Hegeler Cancer Care Center in Danville, OSF Sacred Heart Ambulatory Care, OSF Hospice, and OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center staff.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to OSF Cancer Center of Danville.
