Sandra M. (Birge) Keeling Knight, 80, of Covington, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2023, in Indianapolis Indiana. Sandy was born on August 28, 1943, in Danville, IL the daughter of Acie Levi and Viola Marie (Wood) Birge both of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include her children Brenda (John) Wood of Washington State, Rhonda (Tim) Hall of Covington, Indiana, Jeff (Jessica) Keeling of Westville, IL and Cory Keeling of Covington, Indiana. Five grandchildren, Ashley Hardwick, Meghan (Josh) Allen, Kelsey Hall, Blake Hall, Damon Lamar and Keirsten Connor. Her great grandchildren Damian Goelz, Danielle Goelz, Jason Connor, Maxwell Connor and Beckham Allen. Her siblings Kenneth “Wayne” Birge, Helen (Joe) O’Brien and Shirley (Tom) Ritter. Special niece Brandy Phillips and many others too numerous to list. Sandy was preceded by siblings Delores Pollock and Jacqueline Arthion as well as infant daughter Wendy Renee Keeling.
Raised in Batestown Sandy graduated from Oakwood High School, spent many years living and working in Danville, retiring from Heatcraft after 37 years of service. Sandy also lived in Westville before moving to Rockville Indiana for 17 years. In 2020 she moved to Covington Indiana to be closer to family. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Rockville Indiana having served as secretary for 7 years. An avid Indiana University basketball fan she was often very vocal while rooting for her Hoosiers in front of the T.V. Sandy enjoyed spending time with friends and family, tending to her flowers and relaxing on her porch watching the bird feeders, especially the hummingbirds with her Shih Tzu Buster.
Despite living with COPD for over 25 years and two failed back operations she continued to live life to the fullest. Kayaking, golf cart rides, a day trip to Cataract Falls in Timmy’s jeep and most recently a trip to Niagara Falls are just a few examples of how you couldn’t keep her down. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home’s Covington Chapel, located at 420 3rd Street, Covington, Indiana. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M. Online condolences: www.rortvedtfuneralservices.com.
