Shirley McClain, affectionately known as Snoopy, 79 of Bourbonnais, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday December 24, 2023 at Citadel of Kankakee in Kankakee, IL. Shirley had been a resident at Citadel from 2021 until her passing.
Shirley was born May 31, 1944 in Columbus, OH to James and Grace McClain. She was a teacher at St Anne’s High School for many years. From 1987 until her retirement, she served at the Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Educational System Building Fairness Coordinator as well as Dean of Students at Kankakee Area Career Center. Shirley was also a counselor at Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais. She volunteered as a Sunday School teacher at the Kankakee Church of God where she was an avid member. Shirley was an ordained pastor since 1996 serving a congregation in Cleveland, TN and a church in Wilmington, IL.
Shirley loved to garden, complete word searches, watch game shows, and loved participating in group activities and helping others. In her latter years, she was described as a little mother hen and a social butterfly amongst her fellow residents at Citadel. She is preceded in death by both parents and one sister and survived by a niece, nephew, dear friends Betty Shaver and Sandra Howes as well as many loved ones and friends.
Per Shirley’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded followed by burial at Kankakee Memorial Gardens in Kankakee, IL on Wednesday January 3, 2024.
