Shirley Stephenson Obituary

Shirley D. Stephenson, 87, of Rossville, IL, returned home to her lord and savior on August 15, 2021, at 3:24 in the afternoon due to complications from Covid pneumonia.

Shirley was born on December 25th, 1933, on a farm east of Alvin, Il, to Ennis and Evelyn (Hughes) Thornsbrough.  She was a proud alumnus of Rossville High School. On June 1st, 1952, she married the love of her life Wallie (Steve) Stephenson at the Alvin Christian Church. He preceded her in death on February 9th, 2005. Shirley is survived by one son, Brad (Gina) Stephenson of Alvin, IL, and one daughter, Kim (Tom) Myers of Rossville, Il. She is also survived by a brother, David (Carolyn) Thornsbrough of Alvin, Il, and one sister, June Cain of Pittsboro, IN. She was the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 1 step grandchild. She was also a proud great-grandmother to 14 and 1 on the way.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and daughter in law Terry (Barb) Stephenson. Also preceding her are 3 brothers, Wayne, Harlan, and Jay Thornsbrough, and one sister, Jo Lynn Sutton.

Shirley retired from the U.S. Postal Service as the Postmaster of the Alvin, Il office where she served for 28 years.

Shirley’s life was devoted to God, and she was a proud lifelong member of the Alvin Christian Church. In her spare time, she loved to read and especially loved living in the country where she enjoyed her flowers and the trees. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck with Bruce Thornsbrough officiating.
