Steven Bradley Doggett

Steven Bradley Doggett, 74, of Monticello, Illinois, formerly of Westville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, in Greenwood, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. Born May 11, 1950, in Danville, IL. to Joseph and A. Gail (Atwood) Doggett, Steve lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.
For many years, Steve shared his life with his beloved companion, Wynoka Ashmore. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy in Monticello, surrounded by Wynoka's extended family, who will miss him deeply.
Steve is survived by his devoted children: Elizabeth (Tony) Day of Cayuga, IN; Stephanie (Woody) Hughes of Greenwood, IN; Steven Jr. (Shanna) Doggett of Westville, IL, and stepchildren, Darcy (Derek) Hinchman, Dory (Kenneth) Furman, and Dena Thomas. He cherished his role as a grandfather to 16 grandchildren—Shelby, Ashlee, Tyler, Ava, Isabella, Julian, Alex, Molly, Maddy, Kaleb, Krista, Nicholas, Drew, Kai, Averi, and Sienna and six great-grandchildren—Chase, Jayde, Lucas, Jaxson, Owen, and Liam.
Steve was a dear brother to Rocky (Jo) Doggett of Danville, IL; Michael (Debbie) Doggett of Westville, IL; and Cheryl (Bill) Pickett of Danville, IL. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Steve was a man of many passions including cheering on the Chicago Bears football team, the Chicago Cubs baseball team, and NASCAR races. He was an avid fisherman and proud member of the Illini Bass Club for many years. Steve’s love for the outdoors brought him peace and camaraderie which he found on fishing trips and hunting excursions with friends.
His life was defined by remarkable service and achievement. Steve served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, spending time in England before his honorable discharge. In his civilian life, he was dedicated to public safety as a Georgetown Police Officer and Westville Police Chief. In addition, he was a volunteer firefighter/EMT in his community for several years and helped establish the Westville Volunteer Fire Department rescue squad. He also worked as an electrician at Lakeview Medical Center, now known as OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, where his skill and commitment were evident.
Steve’s legacy is one of love, service, and community. He leaves behind countless memories for his family, friends, and all who were privileged to know him.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gail Doggett; his daughter, Mary Reyes-Rojas; his brother, Michael; and his sister, Cheryl.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Monday, November 25th, 2024, at the VA Chapel in Danville, IL. with family visitation starting at 12PM CST and service at 1PM CST. Graveside will follow at 2PM CST at the Danville National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Steve’s memory be made to the Westville Area Fire Protection District at 119 W. Williams St. Westville, IL 61883.
