Taylor Stephen Funk
“Big Steve”
Steve passed from this life on April 22, 2023.
Born June 11,1932; Son of Stephen Webb Funk and Madge Hall Funk at St. Elizabeth in Danville, IL. The Headlines were “What a BUSTER” weighing in at 14 lb 3 oz. He still holds the record to date. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He spent 3 years of his service at Elmendorf Base in Anchorage, AK.
He married Anna E. Rademacher on April 15, 1956. Together they raised their 2 children Randy and Rhonda, and ran 2 very successful businesses, Funk Oil Co. from 1970-1998 and National Car Funk Leasing, from 1983-2005. He is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion post 210, Life Member of the Danville Boat Club, and Past President of AMBUCS, National President of the Big Hats where his talent for raising money started. In 1973, he began the Annual AMBUCS Raffle that will celebrate 50 years this October.
Steve is survived by his children, Randall S. (Jan) Funk of Arkansas and Rhonda Ann Royce of Illinois. His 3 Grandchildren, Mark Andrew (Erica) Swisher of Washington, Timothy Royce of Washington, and Stephenie Royce of Indiana along with his cherished great-granddaughters Taeler and Kennedy Swisher.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Anna, his 3 siblings, Edmund, Nancy, and Susan, his sons-in-law, Mark H. Swisher, and Eric J. Royce.
According to his wishes he is to be cremated and the service is to be when all his grandchildren could attend. The service is scheduled on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 3:00 at the Lutheran Cemetery on Texas Avenue in Danville, IL.
