Troy R. Davis, 53, of Oakwood, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at his mother’s home in Oakwood. He was born February 24, 1970, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, the son of Bruce R. and Lana L. (Turner) Davis. He is survived by his father, Bruce Davis, his mother, Lana Wasser, his children Joshua A. (Samantha) Davis of Riverton, IL, Jonathan J. Davis of Atlanta, GA, Justin E. (Ashley-Joy) Davis of Oakwood, and Grace O.R. Davis of Oakwood, his grandchildren Liliana A.M. Davis, Evelynn A.R. Davis, Ryan C. Davis, and a brother, Jason A. (Kara) Davis of Clearfield, UT. Troy dedicated 30 years to IL. Law Enforcement, starting his career in 1991 at the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department. During his career, he taught at the IL. State Police Academy, led the Vermilion County D.A.R.E. program and, through that program, started the Vermilion County Explorer Program, where he introduced youths to how it was to be an officer. He then developed the Law Enforcement curriculum at VOTEC. In 2005 he joined the Methamphetamine Response Team for the IL. State Police. After 21 years of service, he retired from the IL. State Police. Troy was a Master Gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. His hobbies included geology, fossil hunting, history, conservation, gardening, amateur arborist, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and collecting typewriters. Troy’s main priority in life was his family. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren. This included attending sporting events, hosting bonfires, planning family events and holiday gatherings.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at United Church of Tilton with Pastor Darin Perkins officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. The burial will be in Songer Cemetery in Tilton. Memorials may be made to Kickapoo State Park. Online condolences: www.rortvedtfuneralservices.com.
