Veda Wilcoxen Obituary

Veda Wilcoxen, born July 1, 1934, was an amazing wife, mother, memaw, sister, and Godly mother to many. Veda loved Jesus and bringing others to know him. Veda’s family had a Christian legacy and were beloved members of Southside Church of the Nazarene (Now Grace Community) since her youth. She spent years, giving her time and a listening ear, taking care of “her seniors” of the church family, until her mid 80’s. This was her ministry vision from Pastor Mike Stipp.

Mom had such an adventurous side to her. She took a hot air balloon ride on her 83rd birthday and a local plane ride on her 88th. She loved to go fast on motorcycles. Once a year until age 86, she would climb the tower at Heron Park. She loved vacationing and going to the beach to see God’s beauty. She married Keith Wilcoxen on June 27,1954. They celebrated 65 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2020.

Veda went to be with the Lord April 2, 2024, at 89 years young. She leaves behind four children, Cheri (Lee) High, Kerry (Kathy) Wilcoxen, Connie Drake, Cristy (Stacey) Sackett, 6 grandchildren: Tori (Jason, AKA Shane) Hill, John (Hannah) High, Derek (Mayce, AKA Duji) Drake, Cody Drake, Braden & Brennon Sackett, and 9 great grandchildren: Rylynn, Emrie, Candice, Camron, Lincoln, Adyline, Olivia, Phoenix, Jade, and a sister Janet (Ken) Weller to carry on her legacy.

Mom was greeted by her heavenly family, husband Keith, parents Jennie & Clyde, sisters Margaret, Marian, Melba, brother Eldon, grandparents, son-in-law Tim Drake, several cousins, and friends.

Veda was loved by everyone she met. She exuded the love of Jesus with all and did not know a stranger. In her later years at Bowman Estates, she continued to witness to others by holding a bible study with neighbors and inviting people to church. At the nursing home, she continued to show her spunky side. She would bring a smile to everyone’s face, just by being the person God made her to be.

Veda’s testimonies were strong and true. She would tell you to accept Jesus and know His love. She wanted everyone to believe he will bring you through anything. “And I better see you in heaven!” Those are words we were taught and strive to live by.
