William (Bud) Atkinson
March 17, 1947 - September 28, 2024
William (Bud) Atkinson, 77, of Danville Illinois, passed this life on Saturday, September 28,2024 at his home. Bud was born March 17, 1947 in Fairfield, Illinois to Rev. George Earl Atkinson and Sara Viola Ruth (Cork) Atkinson. He was the youngest of the 10 children his parents shared together.
Bud is survived by his wife, and love of his life of 58 years, Susan Kay (Kerchief) Atkinson. Their three children they shared together, Tonia Mullins, Sherrie (Junior) Ashby, and Dale (Bo) (Barb) Atkinson. Ten Grandchildren, Ellen Ashby, Buddy Ashby, Jennifer Mullins-Beaver, Melissa Mullins, Anthony (Britny) Ashby, James Mullins, Jeremy (Shelbey) Mullins, Shawn Ashby, Susan (Ryan) McConnell and Kathie Atkinson along with twenty-two great grandchildren, Two great-great grandchildren, One sister, Kay (Marvin) Shutes and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by 8 of his siblings and both of his parents.
Bud owned and operated Bud's Auto Salvage for many, many years to provide for his family before making a career at Steel Grip, Inc. as a warehouse supervisor where he later retired. He was an avid cook and enjoyed getting the family together over a hearty meal. He was an animal lover and enjoyed caring for his many animals, from his birds, cats, dogs, chickens and ducks over the years. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with the whole family. You could often catch him stopping in for a good conversation over a cold one with friends at The Black Bear and years later at The Halfway Inn. Bud was a very well-known and respected man by many. He will be greatly missed by his wife, three children, all of his grandchildren, and many, many friends and family.
Funeral services will be at noon on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church located at 2533 Perrysville Road in Danville with Pastor Mark Carpenter officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00am – noon Monday at the church.
Bud will be buried at Oakhill Cemetery in Oakwood, Illinois immediately following the service.
